Gratitude on My 31st Birthday

Thank you, God

Today is my 31st birthday.

Wow.

What a ride these 31 years have been—a truly wild adventure.

I feel deeply grateful.

Thank you, God…

For Tanja, Lila, Mom, Dad, Anna, Mike, Maggie, Sadie, Buddy, and all the rest of my wonderful and fun-loving family and friends.

Thank you for nature. For health. For delicious food and laughter and prosperity. For beauty. For play. For animals. For colors. For music.

Thank you for the full tragicomic spectrum of life’s ebbs and flows—the triumphs and heartbreaks, the highs and lows—and for all the lessons learned along the way.

Thank you for the endless great mirrors and teachers I’ve met—and for the greatest one: Life itself, in every moment.

Thank you for the radiant presence of Being itself.

Thank you for the person reading this, in all their multi-dimensional humanity.

Thank you for me, in all my quirky and idiosyncratic intricacies. I couldn’t ask for a more hilarious and fascinating constant companion. I wouldn’t trade me for anything.

If I were to sum up what I’ve learned in 31 years in five words, I’d say:

Be you and trust God.

Yep, I think that gets to the heart of it for me.

Be you.

Trust God.
