“Do your thing.”
— KOOL A.D.
A few weeks ago, I interviewed one of my favorite rappers of all time…
One of the ultimate Tao-ish artist-trickster flow-sages I’ve ever come across…
One of my greatest inspirations in life…
KOOL A.D.
This was really a special occurrence for me.
Backstory
I can’t really describe how much KOOL A.D. inspired me over the years.
It all started circa 2013 when I discovered Das Racist, a group KOOL A.D. was in at the time.
Watch this to understand why I was instantly captivated:
KOOL A.D. and Das Racist were one of the top two MAJOR inspirations that pushed me over the edge into recording my own music.
In the times that followed, I found my way to KOOL A.D.’s incredible solo works, such as this classic album, 51:
I spent countless hours immersed in his soundscapes, which are filled with mystical transmissions, off-the-wall references, silly non sequiturs, and an overall vibe of Tao-flow chillaxation.
By the way…
KOOL is one of the most prolific artists of all time.
On his Bandcamp, a quick tally reveals 88 ALBUMS he’s released so far, several of which have ONE HUNDRED songs.
He’s tweeted almost 40,000 times.
He’s also produced a ridiculously massive quantity of ~thousands of pieces of visual art—which he sells on his IG—such as this masterpiece:
A few more:
Dude is really something else.
I have no idea how he is that prolific.
His hilarious essential nectar was summarized well when I asked him…
“Who are you?”
He replied:
“It’s ur boi.”
Then I asked…
“Who are you on the deepest level?”
He replied:
“It’s ur boi.”
LOL.
Man, I love that guy.
So glad he exists.
One of the greatest and most boldly experimental artists of all time.
It was a deep honor to interview him.
If you feel intrigued, I hope you’ll take a look:
