A coach on Reddit recently asked me:
"Which political party do you see as being pro-coaching? Who should we all vote for?"
——
My (slightly edited) answer:
Interesting question.
Lao Tzu said, "He who loves the Earth as his own body is fit to rule the empire."
If you see someone come along who matches this description, vote for them.
RFK Jr. seems reasonably solid and inspiring based on my very limited perusal. It’s unlikely an independent candidate can win though.
The two-party system in the USA (my home country) is a joke, in my view. Deeply broken.
My recommendation for most people is to largely ignore politics. It's mostly a propagandistic distraction.
I haven’t watched the news in 15 years.
I only recommend involving yourself in politics if you’re actually taking real impactful action in the political arena based on a sincere heart-calling. Otherwise it’s a distraction.
The innovation of new and wiser systems of governance is far more important than who gets elected within the present broken system.
And further upstream—upstream of everything—is consciousness work: Unless we reach a critical mass of people who have reconnected to our loving source, our civilization will continue to reflect our deep disconnection from love.
For wise perspectives on politics, governance, system-design, economics, and consciousness, I recommend the work of Daniel Schmachtenberger, Jordan Hall, and Charles Eisenstein.
For wise perspectives from those who go to the root and focus primarily on consciousness work, I recommend the work of Jesus Christ, Peter Brown (www.theOpenDoorway.org), Remi Delaune of Kumankaya (www.Kumankaya.com), Lao Tzu, Sri Anandamayi Ma, Ramana Maharshi, Nisargadatta Maharaj, Neem Karoli Baba, Paramahansa Yogananda, Thomas Merton, Adyashanti, David Hawkins, Byron Katie, Julian of Norwich, and Eckhart Tolle.
A Few Final Thoughts
Note: I don’t really like the term ‘consciousness work’ to describe the mystical path to the heart of reality, yet it seems to be one of the shorthands that translates semi-easily across different contexts. God is very difficult to talk about without confusing people.
I once asked Peter Brown, “What is the enlightened view of politics?”
He chucklingly replied, “Entertainment.”
Best description of politics I ever heard, hah.
I mean, c’mon, a reality TV star is probably going to be president of the USA again. Gotta be able to laugh at this cosmic joke.
The good news is that everything is always okay on the deepest level.
Stainless God-nature abides.
If you really care about creating a more beautiful world, practice to root your life in that stainless God-nature.
As we root ourselves there, a more beautiful world is created automagically.
Much Love,
J
