Don't let bypass-y non-dualists convince you that there is no difference between white magick and black magick.
The difference is vast.
White magick is Source-aligned, karmically 'clean,' serves the Highest Good of all beings, and is rooted in the recognition that, "You are me and I am you."
Black magick prioritizes small self over big Self and is (usually) karmically inauspicious and not in service to all.
Yes, *in a sense,* all events can be said to be Source-aligned and to serve the Highest… Because on one level “it’s all God and it’s all perfect”...
Yet this is an incomplete half-truth.
Some non-dual magicians twist this half-truth into a justification for dabbling in the 'dark arts.' There is a (large) karmic cost to this.
Are all events Source-aligned or not?
Both, neither, far beyond either.
Reality is ridiculously complex, layered, multi-dimensional.
In my view, all events/acts come from Source/God and *ultimately* serve the Divine Dance.
Yet not all events/acts are truly *Source-full*—i.e. embodying the loving nature of Source/God.
This is a subtle distinction, and can easily be overlooked or twisted to justify 'dark arts.'
Truly Source-full acts *leave no karmic trace*, like writing on air, for they are done with pure intent to serve the Good of All, in the seeing that, "What I do to you, I do to me."
This is why ancient spiritual traditions talk a lot about skillful means. The more skillful an act, the more it is truly Source-full or of the loving, empty, intelligent nature of Source.
It’s a Wide Spectrum
Note that there’s a vast spectrum here, ranging from purely white and Source-full magick to utterly black, violent magick that intends great harm—and everything in-between.
The more one tends toward the ‘dark arts’ side of the spectrum, the greater the karmic cost.
100% Source-full/white magick is probably quite rare overall, as in my view it requires a profound degree of emptiness, God-realization, and surrender/transparency to the One.
I do not claim to be all the way there by any means, but I think sincerely holding the aspiration and intention to align with God and “let thy will be my will” is already immensely powerful and minimizes karmic ‘debts.’
We are All Magicians
To be clear, in my view we are all magicians, doing magick all the time.
We are all constantly creating a certain reality-tunnel, a certain experience of reality.
We are all constantly changing our realities in subtle and not-subtle ways via our intentions, energy, identities, beliefs, actions, and so forth.
Most simply are not particularly conscious of this. To 'do magick' is simply to engage this process consciously.
As you dive into this, you begin to realize how profoundly your intentions, beliefs, (daily) rituals, visions, energy, and identities are shaping/creating your reality.
And you realize these aspects are not fixed.
You can tweak them (or blow them apart) to completely change your experience of life.
A Recommendation
My simple recommendation for magicians is to regularly pray to God and ask, "Let thy Will be my will."
I also recommend the habit of adding an addendum any time you 'do magick' or set any sort of powerful intention:
"Let this come to pass *if and only if* it serves the Highest Good for myself, my family, all beings, and Divinity."
Many magicians tell themselves they must do their 'True Will' and prioritize this above all else, including God's Will and the Highest Good of all.
The cosmic joke is that if it is *truly* your True Will, it will be identical with God's Will and will serve all beings.
God is your own Self—your deepest, innermost essence.
So if you feel that your True Will is or may be apart from the Will of God...
It's time to take a step back and question what forces may be gripping or influencing or 'dripping' a little poison into your psyche.
There is a reason Aleister Crowley spent his final days utterly alone and addicted to heroine.
And that's saying nothing of what occurred after he departed this world...
The 'dark arts' come with a karmic cost. Don't underestimate what you are playing with.
Moving Away From ‘Magick’
I first shared the above post as a thread on Twitter.
I liked this reply from a friend over there:
I can relate to this.
The language we use to describe what we are doing is important.
On one level, I can say that we’re all magicians doing magick all the time, and I feel this is accurate.
At the same time, this creates a certain frame and feeling around what we’re doing, with certain associations…
And perhaps there is a more expansive and resonant frame that comes with less baggage. I feel it’s always wise to be open to this.
For myself, I sense a frame-shift taking place currently around ‘magick.’ I don’t feel so much resonance with the term ‘white magician’ to describe myself.
I still like the term wizard, in kind of a playful way… Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings are two of my absolute favorite stories and archetypal blueprints for life of all time…
Yet I also really resonate with this “person of God” frame.
I am a man of God.
I am simply a channel.
The infinite love, power, and creative resources that I have access to—these come from God, my innermost source and essence.
My ‘job’ is simply to get out of my own way and let God’s Desire—my own truest desire—burst through me and ‘dance’ me.
Interestingly, this is why following your true desire/will and surrendering to God turn out to lead to the same place.
What God wants for you, is what you want for yourself, in your heart of hearts.
So, yes, this is all to say that it’s resonating to feel myself as a man of God.
A channel.
A co-creator with the All.
A heart-led King, in service to God, the Whole, and this Earth-realm.
A solid, reliable Mountain, for my family, my community, and my world.
This is where my energy is flowing—what I feel myself grounding into more and more over time.
